A letter from Richard Holt, Secretary, in March 2022
We held a meeting this week to sort out some details for the AGM of the Trust and
a couple of other items.
Firstly, I am sorry to report that Kate Cahn has had to step down as Chair of the
Trust. Kate has been Chair for several years and has done a great job of holding
the Committee together and moving things forward. We hope that she will be able to
join as a member again soon. In her place, the Committee elected Mark Agnew as Acting
Chair until the AGM.
We have set the date of the AGM as Thursday 19th May. The AGM will be held in the
Sports and Social Club, starting at 1930. The bar will be open for drinks and we
will provide light refreshments. We will arrange for a speaker to give a talk on
a relevant subject once the business of the AGM is complete, so keep an eye and ear
open for details closer to the time. Details will be sent out by email, Facebook,
Posters and maybe even flyers.
Just before that, on Sunday 15th May, we invite everybody to join a Guided Walk in
the parish, which will be a Celebration of Spring. Neil Croton will be the guide
and will point out items of interest and give background facts to add to our knowledge.
The Walk will start at 1430 at the Village Hall, and we aim to end around 1600 with
a tea in the Village Hall Community Room. This will be free, so please let your friends
and neighbours know, and invite them along.
We have had a plan for what seems like an age to put a gate into the fence alongside
"Johnson's Wood". This is the area of trees planted some years ago next to the footpath
from Whitty's Lane to the Dungeon and up to Sadborow. There is a bench in there
bit the only access is a stile at the top end of the enclosure which is not so easy
to negotiate. We have agreed to go ahead and install this now, and have approval
from the land owner to do so. We have mainly been delayed by waiting for responses
from the County Council (and, formerly, West Dorset District Council) about types
of gate, etc. The gate will be purchased this week, and fitted soon.
We have benefited greatly from having new Committee Members on board, but there are
still vacancies which need to be filled. Please think about putting yourself forward
at the AGM, and contact any of the present Committee for more information.
